In the US, Race Matters: Hispanic vs Black
Hispanics may have passed Blacks as the largest minority group

Syracuse, NY (ENet News) - Is the comparison of Hispanics and Blacks a case of apples and oranges. The question should be asked, why is the Census Bureau comparing an ethnic group to a race? Is this being done to confuse the general public?

Who knows the answer to that question?

According to an article on BET.com, Dr William Spriggs of the National Urban League's Institute of Opportunity and Equality contends, since many Blacks identify themselves as Hispanic, and many Hispanics identify themselves as White, Asian, Native American and other, the bureau's motivation is unclear.

But, there is something very clear. Where are the other ethnic groups? Why don't we here about the population of other immigrant ethnic groups like Russian, Polish, Italian, Swedish, German, French, Dutch, Irish, Jewish, well I think you get the picture. The numbers are out there but those numbers add to the status quo and the Hispanic numbers will refocus the minority efforts to white Hispanics.

Now this is no different than qualifying women as minorities and giving a disproportion number of contract to white females. If you check most state, county and city records you will be amazed.

If you take all of those groups and make separate categories, you will find the number of white Americans are over represent in all areas compared to people of African decent. No one should be surprised that Hispanics want to identify with whites, so do African immigrants and some bi racial Blacks.

Face it, Black is not the popular race in this country but the motivation to devalue African Americans has been as obvious as state sanctioned police shootings. Question, has there ever been a police officer arrested for killing someone black? Just thought I'd ask.

The truth is, those numbers don't mean a thing. There are probably more people in the country that speak Spanish than there are African Americans, and Blacks and Asians are the only groups that each have nearly 1 billion descendents on the planet. FYI.

In this country Blacks (Hispanic and African American) and other Hispanics groups have the same issues of housing, employment, education and poverty, so there is no reason to make it a issue of origin.

There is a lot of work to be done across the board and there is no reason to get side tracked.

Apples or Oranges, it really doesn't matter which tree you pick, it matters who owns the farm.
