Mission

The Rosamond Gifford Charitable Corporation is one of several charitable foundations dedicated to addressing the educational, scientific, social, and religious needs of the Syracuse and Onondaga County community. At a time of increasing human needs, changes in government funding of human service programs, a decrease in corporate foundation dollars in our community, and increasing social concerns, the Trustees of the Foundation have reviewed its mission.

The Foundation has, since its inception, focused its resources on the identified high-priority human needs in Syracuse and Onondaga County.

The Foundation will continue to address these human needs through authorization of grants. Increasingly, the Trustees see the Foundation through its grant-maing decisions serving as...

• a catalyst - providing impetus to creative collaboration of private not-for-profit groups with one another and/or public sector groups to address urgent human needs in this community,

• developer - providing ways for not-for-profit agencies to further develop and strengthen their ability to meet the increasing human, educational, social, and scientific demands of their clientele, and to expand into wider areas of concern,

• facilitator - providing opportunities for groups of concerned persons to come together and discuss, plan, and address pressing social/education/other issues of the community in new and creative ways.
