Dorsey's Biography

This 6’2, 230 pound “workhorse” began playing football as a junior pee wee in a Pop-Warner League, the Sherman Park Bulldogs. This experience helped to groom him for an exceptional high school career.

Dorsey excelled at both football and basketball, as he became the first player in Central New York history to rush for 3,000 yards and score 1,000 points in a high school career.

Academics were equally, if not more, important to Dorsey as he maintained an ‘A’ average in the classroom while participating in sports, student clubs and holding a part time job. He was a member of Students Against Drunk Driving (SADD), students Say NO to Drugs, DARE and the Mayor’s Youth Advisory Board.

Dorsey was named a Parade Football All-American and New York State Player of the Year, due mostly to his accomplishments on the gridiron. Even after rushing for 3,161 yards and 50 touchdowns, he says that his most memorable high school moment came on the basketball court. Winning the State Championship!

Dorsey could have easily attended college on a basketball scholarship. Actually, that is an understatement. He was a powerful rebounder and scorer for the Nottingham High School Bulldogs. He averaged twelve (12) rebounds per game and scored over 1,450 points in his career. His extraordinary ability to deliver “the rock” gained him the honors of being named All-League for three years and First Team All-State as a high school senior.

Although his skills on the basketball court were phenomenal, Dorsey chose to broaden his athletic talent through football. He attended the University of Notre Dame for two (2) years and then transferred to Georgia Tech where he graduated with a bachelor’s degree in Business Law.

Dorsey’s dedication to the sport of football finally paid off as he was selected as a 5th round draft pick for the Green Bay Packers in 1994. He has since made significant strides and accomplishments in the National Football League (NFL). One of them being his outstanding performance in the 1996 victory over North Carolina in the NFC Championship Game, as Green Bay went on to capture Super Bowl XXXI (Dorsey Levens Packers Information). His outstanding combination of power, size and speed has earned him the name “Dorse the Horse” among his colleagues.

Dorsey makes it clear that success is not the“work of one man”. “I did not come this far on my own. I received overwhelming support and encouragement from my family and friends”. He attributes much to the influence of coaches Ralph Kirkland, Sherman Park Football, Lorenz Jackson, High School Varsity Football, and Dwayne Ford, JV and Varsity Basketball.

“The same positive influence and support that was given me, I will give in return. Be it on the field or in the community I will work to make a difference”.
